The ages of persons A and B are in the ratio 4:7. The age of C after 6 years will be equal to the present age of A. If the average age of A, B, and C is 28 years, find the age of A after 6 years.

Solution

Let present ages of A and B be 4x and 7x. Since C after 6 years equals A's present age, C = 4x - 6. Their average is 28, so 4x + 7x + (4x - 6) = 84. Solving gives x = 6, hence A = 24 and A after 6 years = 30.
