Prithvi starts walking from his home in the south direction and walks 7 km to reach point A. Then he takes a right turn and walks 5 km to reach point B. From point B, he turns 90 degrees to his left and walks 8 km to reach point C. From point C again, he turns 90 degrees to his left and walks 10 km to reach point D. Then he takes a left turn and walks 17 km in the north direction to reach point E. Finally, he makes a 90-degree left turn and walks 5 km to reach point F. Question: What is the distance between Prithvi's house and the final point?
- 3 km
- 5 km
- 1 km
- 2 km
Correct answer: 2 km
Solution
The path can be reduced by converting each move into coordinate shifts. After all movements, the net displacement from the house is 2 km, so the straight-line distance is 2 km.
