Given A = {2, 3, 4, 8, 10}, B = {3, 4, 5, 10, 12}, C = {4, 5, 6, 12, 14}, find the set (A ∩ B) ∪ (A ∩ C).

  1. {3, 4, 10}
  2. {2, 8, 10}
  3. {4, 5, 6}
  4. {3, 5, 14}

Correct answer: {3, 4, 10}

Solution

By the distributive law, (A ∩ B) ∪ (A ∩ C) = A ∩ (B ∪ C). B ∪ C = {3,4,5,6,10,12,14}. A ∩ (B ∪ C) = {3,4,10}.
