U is 6 km west of S, W is 11 km west of R, X is 10 km south of W, Y is 11 km east of X, Z is 5 km north of Y, and V is 5 km west of Y. P, R, and Q are in the same line. What is the direction of X with respect to P?

Solution

Let Q be at (0,0) and P be 10 km west of Q, so P is at (-10,0). Since S is 10 km north of P, S is at (-10,10); U is 6 km west of S, so U is at (-16,10). With the given relations, W ends up 10 km west of R and X is 10 km south of W, placing X south-west of P.
