Two long parallel wires P and Q are both perpendicular to the plane of the paper with distance of 5 m between them. If P and Q carry currents of 2.5 amp and 5 amp respectively in the same direction, then the magnetic field at a point halfway between the wires is
- 3μ₀/2π
- μ₀/π
- √3μ₀/2π
- μ₀/2π
Correct answer: 3μ₀/2π
Solution
The magnetic field due to each wire at the midpoint is calculated using the formula B = μ₀I / 2πr. Since the currents are in the same direction, the fields add up. The net field is B_net = μ₀(5 - 2.5) / 2π(2.5) = 3μ₀/2π.
