Two capacitors connected in parallel having capacitances 1 C and 2 C are given charge q. The charge is distributed among them. The ratio of the charge on the 1 C and 2 C capacitors will be

Solution

For capacitors in parallel, the potential difference across each is the same. Since charge is proportional to capacitance, the charges divide in the ratio of their capacitances, i.e. 1 : 2.
