Two capacitors of equal capacitance are first connected in parallel and then in series. The ratio of the total capacitances in the two cases will be

Solution

If each capacitor has capacitance C, then in parallel the equivalent capacitance is 2C. In series, the equivalent capacitance is C/2. Therefore, the ratio is 2C : C/2 = 4 : 1.
