Pig iron is the most impure form of iron and contains highest proportion of carbon (2.5–4%).
- K2Cr2O7 + 2NaOH → K2CrO4 + Na2CrO4 + H2O
- Hence CrO42− ion is obtained.
- Although Cu2+ state is more stable than Cu+, but Cu+ ion can be stabilized by formation of insoluble substances such as CuCl, CuCN and CuSCN. Cu2+ is more stable than Cu+ because of its high hydration energy.
- Stainless steel contains 73% Fe, 18% Cr and 8% Ni.
Correct answer: Stainless steel contains 73% Fe, 18% Cr and 8% Ni.
Solution
Option D is correct because it provides accurate information about the composition of stainless steel, which is a well-known alloy of iron. The other options are unrelated to the question about pig iron.
