Two coils are placed near each other. The mutual inductance of this pair of coils depends on:
- the rates at which the currents in the two coils are changing
- the relative position and orientation of the two coils
- the materials of the wires forming the coils
- the magnitudes of the currents in the two coils
Correct answer: the relative position and orientation of the two coils
Solution
Mutual inductance M is fixed by the geometry: the size and shape of the coils, number of turns, the core/medium, and their relative position and orientation. It does not depend on the currents or how fast they change.
