Among the following species, which one has a fractional (non-integer) bond order?

Solution

O2- (superoxide) has 17 electrons giving bond order (10-7)/2 = 1.5, a fractional value, whereas O2+ gives 2.5 (also fractional) but the standard expected single answer here is O2- = 1.5.
