A milkman has 60 litres of a mixture of milk and water in the ratio 5:1. If he adds 10 litres of milk and 5 litres of water to the mixture, what will be the new ratio of milk and water?
- 4:1
- 5:3
- 4:2
- 3:4
Correct answer: 4:1
Solution
In 60 litres with ratio 5:1, milk = 50 litres and water = 10 litres. After adding 10 litres milk and 5 litres water, milk becomes 60 litres and water becomes 15 litres. The new ratio is 60:15 = 4:1.
