A motor boat covers a certain distance downstream in 6 hours and the same distance upstream in 8 hours. If speed of stream = 2 km/h, find speed of boat in still water.

Solution

Let boat speed=v km/h. Distance: 6(v+2)=8(v-2). 6v+12=8v-16. 2v=28. v=14 km/h.
