There are ten trains P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, and Y at the base station. Four platforms P1, P2, P3, and P4 are such that the first train can reach them at 5 AM, 6 AM, 7 AM, and 8 AM respectively. Platform P1 is the nearest platform and P4 is the farthest. There must be a gap of one hour between the two trains reaching a particular station. The speed of the trains is the same. At most three trains can have a platform as their destination. Train R and S started from the base station and reached the nearest platform with a gap of 1 hour. R started its journey earlier than S. R reached the destination at 6 AM. Train P stopped its journey at a platform which is two more than Train S. Train X reached the last platform. Train W's destination is not the same as the destination of R, T, and Y. Destinations of U and V are the same. The destination of U and V is not the same as the destination of S and X. Train Q's destination is the same as the destination of Y. There is only one more train at the platform where Train X reached its destination, and it is not P1 or P4. Train Q's destination is ahead of Train T's destination. At what time did Train S reach platform P1? A) 9:00 AM B) 8:00 AM C) 7:00 AM D) 10:00 AM
- 9:00 AM
- 8:00 AM
- 7:00 AM
- 10:00 AM
Correct answer: 7:00 AM
Solution
R reaches platform P1 at 6 AM. Since S reaches the nearest platform with a gap of one hour and R started earlier than S, S must reach P1 at 7 AM. This matches the given arrangement constraints.
