(I) \(x^2 + 2x - 399 = 0\) (II) \(y^2 + y - 462 = 0\)
- x > y
- x \ge y
- x = y or relationship can't be determined.
- x < y
Correct answer: x = y or relationship can't be determined.
Solution
The first equation gives roots \(x=19\) and \(x=-21\). The second gives roots \(y=21\) and \(y=-22\). Since different combinations can make \(x>y\), \(x<y\), or even equal in some comparisons are not uniquely fixed, the relationship cannot be determined.
