What value can come in place of the question mark (?) in the expression below? 9 × 5 × \frac{1}{3} \text{ of } 22 + (10)^2 = ?

  1. 420
  2. 445
  3. 435
  4. 440

Correct answer: 440

Solution

Using BODMAS, \(\frac{1}{3}\) of 22 is \(22/3\). Then \(9 \times 5 \times 22/3 = 330\), and \((10)^2 = 100\). Adding them gives 440.
