SSC CGL — the Combined Graduate Level examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission — is used to recruit graduates into a wide range of Group B and Group C posts across central government ministries, departments and organisations. It is one of India's most popular government-job exams because of the job security, pay and postings it offers.
Tier 1 (the Preliminary stage) is a computer-based objective test covering General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension. It is a screening stage: clearing it with a strong score is what carries you into the Mains (Tier 2).
