A number when divided by 5 gives a remainder of 3. What will be the remainder when the same number is divided by 10?

  1. 3
  2. 8
  3. 6
  4. 5

Correct answer: 8

Solution

If a number leaves remainder 3 when divided by 5, it can be written as 5k + 3. For the same number to leave remainder 8 when divided by 10, it must be of the form 10m + 8, which also gives remainder 3 on division by 5.
