If the radius of a cylinder is increased to 1.5 times and the height is doubled, what is the ratio of the new volume to the original volume?

Correct answer: 4.5:1

Solution

For a cylinder, volume \(V=\pi r^2 h\). If radius becomes 1.5 times and height becomes 2 times, new volume factor = \((1.5)^2 \times 2 = 2.25 \times 2 = 4.5\). So the ratio is 4.5:1.
