Solution

Mean proportional of 1.6 and 3.6 = sqrt(1.6 x 3.6) = sqrt(5.76) = 2.4. Third proportional of 5 and 8: if a:b = b:x then x = b^2/a = 64/5 = 12.8. Ratio = 2.4/12.8 = 24/128 = 3/16 = 3:16.
