Two cylinders have radii in the ratio 1 : 4 and heights in the ratio 4 : 3. What is the ratio of their volumes?

Solution

Volume of a cylinder = pi * r^2 * h. V1/V2 = (r1^2 * h1) / (r2^2 * h2) = (1^2 * 4) / (4^2 * 3) = 4 / 48 = 1 : 12.
