The radii of the bases of two cylinders are in the ratio 3:4, and their heights are in the ratio 5:6. What is the ratio of their curved surface areas?
- 5 : 4
- 4 : 5
- 1 : 2
- 4 : 7
Correct answer: 4 : 7
Solution
CSA of a cylinder = 2pirh. Ratio of CSAs = (r1 x h1) / (r2 x h2). With r1:r2 = 4:5 and h1:h2 = 5:7, the ratio = (4 x 5) : (5 x 7) = 20 : 35 = 4 : 7.
