The base radii of two cones are in the ratio 2 : 5 and their volumes are in the ratio 3 : 5. What is the ratio of their heights?

Solution

Volume ratio: (r1^2 * h1)/(r2^2 * h2) = 3/5. With r1:r2 = 2:5, r1^2/r2^2 = 4/25. So h1/h2 = (3/5) * (25/4) = 75/20 = 15/4. Ratio is 15 : 4.
