Two similar hexagons have perimeters in the ratio 5 : 7. If the area of the smaller hexagon is 75 sq cm, what is the area of the larger hexagon?

Solution

For similar polygons, areas scale as the square of corresponding lengths, so the area ratio is 25:49. Setting 75 to 25 parts gives 3 per part, and 49 parts equal 147 sq cm.
