Three persons' incomes are in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5. If each income goes up by Rs. 2000, the ratio becomes 5 : 6 : 7. What was the original income of the person who earned the least?
- Rs. 2000
- Rs. 3000
- Rs. 4000
- Rs. 5000
Correct answer: Rs. 3000
Solution
Let incomes be 3x, 4x, 5x. After +2000 each, (3x+2000):(4x+2000) = 5:6 gives 18x + 12000 = 20x + 10000, so x = 1000. The lowest income = 3x = 3000.
