A right prism stands on a trapezoidal base whose parallel sides are 12 cm and 8 cm and whose height (distance between the parallel sides) is 5 cm. If the prism is 20 cm tall, what is its volume?

Solution

The trapezium area is (1/2)(12 + 8)(5) = 50 cm^2. Multiplying by the prism height 20 cm gives a volume of 1000 cm^3.
