The parallel sides of a trapezium are in the ratio 2 : 3. If its height is 12 cm and its area is 150 cm squared, find the lengths of the two parallel sides.

1. 8 cm and 12 cm
2. 10 cm and 15 cm

4. 14 cm and 21 cm

Correct answer: 10 cm and 15 cm

Solution

With sides 2x and 3x, area = (1/2)(5x)(12) = 30x = 150, so x = 5. The sides are 2x = 10 cm and 3x = 15 cm.
