A purse holds coins of denominations Rs 10, Rs 5 and Rs 2 in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5. If the money in the purse adds up to Rs 600, how many coins of each value are there?
- 20 coins of Rs 10, 30 coins of Rs 5 and 40 coins of Rs 2
- 30 coins of Rs 10, 40 coins of Rs 5 and 50 coins of Rs 2
- 15 coins of Rs 10, 20 coins of Rs 5 and 25 coins of Rs 2
- 45 coins of Rs 10, 60 coins of Rs 5 and 75 coins of Rs 2
Correct answer: 30 coins of Rs 10, 40 coins of Rs 5 and 50 coins of Rs 2
Solution
Taking the counts as 3x, 4x and 5x, the total value is 30x + 20x + 10x = 60x. Setting 60x = 600 gives x = 10, so the counts are 30, 40 and 50 coins respectively.
