A purse holds coins of denominations Rs 10, Rs 5 and Rs 2 in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5. If the money in the purse adds up to Rs 600, how many coins of each value are there?

Solution

Taking the counts as 3x, 4x and 5x, the total value is 30x + 20x + 10x = 60x. Setting 60x = 600 gives x = 10, so the counts are 30, 40 and 50 coins respectively.
