If 20% of (A + B) equals 50% of (A - B), determine the ratio A : B.

Solution

Setting 0.2(A+B) = 0.5(A-B) gives 2(A+B) = 5(A-B), so 2A+2B = 5A-5B, i.e. 7B = 3A, hence A : B = 7 : 3.
