A 48-litre mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 3 : 5. How much water should be taken out so that milk and water become equal (1 : 1)?

Correct answer: 12 L

Solution

Milk = 3/8 * 48 = 18 L and water = 30 L. For a 1:1 ratio water must equal milk (18 L), so remove 30 - 18 = 12 L of water.
