A trader stocks two grades of tea, one priced at Rs 70 per kg and the other at Rs 100 per kg. After blending them, he sells the mixture at Rs 91 per kg and makes a profit of 25%. In what ratio were the two grades combined?

  1. 1 : 2
  2. 68 : 7
  3. 23 : 21
  4. 1 : 3

Correct answer: 68 : 7

Solution

Selling at Rs 91 with 25% profit means cost price = 91/1.25 = Rs 72.8 per kg. By alligation, ratio = (100 - 72.8) : (72.8 - 70) = 27.2 : 2.8 = 68 : 7.
