A tank holds 120 litres of pure juice. 15 litres are removed and replaced with water; this is done a second time. In the final mixture, what is the ratio of juice to water?

Solution

After two replacements the juice left is 120 x (7/8)^2 = 91.875 litres, leaving 28.125 litres of water. The ratio 91.875 : 28.125 simplifies to 49 : 15.
