A blend has milk and water in the ratio 3 : 2. After 20 litres of milk is poured in, the ratio becomes 5 : 2. What was the new ratio of milk to water? (assume original milk = 30 L)

Solution

Take the original as 30 L milk and 20 L water (3 : 2). Water is unchanged; milk becomes 30 + 20 = 50 L. New ratio = 50 : 20 = 5 : 2.
