A 40-litre mixture has milk and water in the ratio 3 : 5. How many litres of milk must be added so that milk and water are in the ratio 1 : 1?

Solution

In 40 L at ratio 3:5, milk = 15 L and water = 25 L. To make them equal (1:1), milk must rise to 25 L, so 25 - 15 = 10 L of milk is added.
