Three groups of students have average ages of 17, 19, and 23 years. If the number of students in the groups is in the ratio 3 : 4 : 6, what is the combined average age of all the students?

Solution

Taking group sizes as 3, 4 and 6, the total of all ages is 51 + 76 + 138 = 265 over 13 students. 265/13 = 20.38, which is the combined average.
