n equal resistors are first connected in series and then connected in parallel. What is the ratio of the maximum to the minimum resistance?

Solution

When n resistors are connected in series, the equivalent resistance is nR. When connected in parallel, the equivalent resistance is R/n. The ratio of maximum (series) to minimum (parallel) resistance is (nR) / (R/n) = n².
