A network of four capacitors of capacity equal to C₁ = C, C₂ = 2C, C₃ = 3C and C₄ = 4C are connected to a battery as shown in the figure. The ratio of the charges on C₂ and C₄ is:
- 1:2
- 2:1
- 3:4
- 4:3
Correct answer: 2:1
Solution
In the given circuit, capacitors C₂ and C₄ are in series with the battery. In a series combination, the charge on each capacitor is the same. Therefore, the ratio of charges on C₂ and C₄ is 1:1.
