Solution

The gravitational potential at the origin due to each mass is given by V = -Gm/r. Summing the contributions from all masses, we get a geometric series: V = -G(2/1 + 2/2 + 2/4 + 2/8 + ...). The sum of this infinite series is -4G/3.
