If 25W, 220 V and 100 W, 220 V bulbs are connected in series across a 440 V line, then

1. only 25W bulb will fuse

Solution

In a series connection, the current through both bulbs is the same, but the voltage drop across each depends on its resistance. The 25W bulb has a higher resistance than the 100W bulb, so it will experience a higher voltage drop. When connected to a 440V line, the voltage across the 25W bulb will exceed its rated voltage (220V), causing it to fuse.
