If a ball is thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 40 m/s, then velocity of the ball after two seconds will be (g = 10 m/s^2)

  1. (a) 15 m/s
  2. (b) 20 m/s
  3. (c) 25 m/s
  4. (d) 28 m/s

Correct answer: (b) 20 m/s

Solution

For a ball thrown upward, gravity reduces its velocity by g each second. Starting from 40 m/s, after 2 s the velocity becomes 40 - 10×2 = 20 m/s upward.
