Aniline is reacted with bromine water and the resulting product is treated with an aqueous solution of sodium nitrite in presence of dilute hydrochloric acid. The compound so formed is converted into a tetrafluoroborate which is subsequently heated dry. The final product is

  1. 1, 3, 5-Tribromobenzene
  2. p-Bromofluorobenzene
  3. p-Bromoaniline
  4. 2, 4, 6-Tribromofluorobenzene

Correct answer: 2, 4, 6-Tribromofluorobenzene

Solution

Aniline reacts with bromine water to form 2,4,6-tribromoaniline. Upon diazotization with sodium nitrite and HCl, it forms a diazonium salt, which is converted into tetrafluoroborate. Heating this salt results in the formation of 2,4,6-tribromofluorobenzene via the Balz-Schiemann reaction.
