All the reactions in glycolysis are reversible except
- 3 -Phosphoglycerate to 1,3 -Biphosphoglycerate.
- Glucose 6-phosphate to fructose - 6-phosphate.
- 1,3 -Biphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3 -P.
- Fructose - 6 -phosphate to fructose- 1,6 -diphosphate.
Correct answer: Fructose - 6 -phosphate to fructose- 1,6 -diphosphate.
Solution
Most glycolytic reactions are near-equilibrium and can run in either direction. The phosphorylation of fructose-6-phosphate to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate is strongly exergonic and is essentially irreversible under cellular conditions.
