Which of the following is the contrapositive of the statement: “If I do not obtain good marks, then I cannot pursue engineering”?
- If I obtain good marks, then I can pursue engineering
- If I pursue engineering, then I obtain good marks
- If I cannot pursue engineering, then I do not obtain good marks
- None of these
Correct answer: If I pursue engineering, then I obtain good marks
Solution
The statement is 'if not good marks (~G) then cannot pursue engineering (~E)', i.e. ~G => ~E. Its contrapositive is the negation of consequent implying negation of antecedent: E => G, that is 'If I pursue engineering, then I obtain good marks.'
