Which statement is the converse of: if x < y, then x² < y²?
- If x is not smaller than y, then x² is not smaller than y²
- If x² < y², then x < y
- If x² ≥ y², then x ≥ y
- None of the above
Correct answer: If x² < y², then x < y
Solution
The converse of 'if P then Q' is 'if Q then P'. Here P: x<y, Q: x^2<y^2, so the converse is 'if x^2 < y^2, then x < y'.
