Let α and β be the zeros of the quadratic equation 2x² + 6x + b = 0, where b < 0. Then the value of α/β + β/α is less than:

Correct answer: −2

Solution

Sum=-3, product=b/2. alpha/beta+beta/alpha=((alpha+beta)^2-2*product)/product=(9-b)/(b/2)=18/b-2. Since b<0, 18/b<0, so the value is < -2.
