When a large excess of AgNO3 is added to 100 mL of a 0.01 M solution of dichlorotetraaquachromium(III) chloride, how many moles of AgCl will be formed as precipitate?
- 0.002
- 0.003
- 0.01
- 0.001
Correct answer: 0.001
Solution
In [CrCl2(H2O)4]Cl only the one chloride outside the coordination sphere is precipitated. Moles of complex = 0.01 M x 0.100 L = 0.001 mol, so 0.001 mol AgCl forms.
