Which of the following sequences lists the substances in order of increasing solubility?
- CaCO3 < KHCO3 < NaHCO3
- NaHCO3 < KHCO3 < CaCO3
- KHCO3 < NaHCO3 < CaCO3
- CaCO3 < NaHCO3 < KHCO3
Correct answer: CaCO3 < KHCO3 < NaHCO3
Solution
Calcium carbonate is sparingly soluble, potassium bicarbonate is more soluble than calcium carbonate, and sodium bicarbonate is the most soluble among the three. Hence the increasing order is CaCO3 < KHCO3 < NaHCO3.
