ExamsIBPS POReasoning

Six persons—L, M, N, O, P, and Q—are sitting in a row, but not necessarily in the same order. Who among the following sits second from the left end of the row? (Facing south) Statement I: Q sits third to the left of the one who sits second to the right of L. Only two persons are sitting between Q and M. Only one person sits between L and N. Statement II: Only two persons are sitting between M and Q. M sits immediately right of the one who sits second to the left of O, who sits at either the left or right end.

  1. Only Statement I is sufficient
  2. Only Statement II is sufficient
  3. Either statement I or statement II is sufficient
  4. Neither statement I nor statement II is sufficient

Correct answer: Only Statement II is sufficient

Solution

Statement I does not uniquely determine the arrangement, so it is insufficient. Statement II, however, gives enough constraints to fix the relative positions and identify who is second from the left. Therefore, only Statement II is sufficient.
