Three boxes are placed between A and E. C is placed just below A. Two boxes are placed between C and F. B is placed above D.

  1. Only I is sufficient
  2. Both I and II together are sufficient
  3. Either I or II is sufficient
  4. Only II is sufficient

Correct answer: Only II is sufficient

Solution

Statement I does not uniquely determine the position of B, so the number of boxes below B cannot be found from it alone. Statement II gives a complete arrangement of all six boxes, allowing the position of B to be fixed and hence the number below it to be determined.
