A, B, C, D, E, F and G are seven people standing at certain distances from one another. C is 10 m east of A. D is 10 m north of A. C is 5 m south of B. F is 18 m west of E. E is 11 m north of C. G is 8 m west of D. What is the distance between G and F?
- 1 m
- 5 m
- 10 m
- 4 m
Correct answer: 1 m
Solution
Take A as (0,0). Then C is (10,0), D is (0,10), E is (10,11), F is (-8,11), and G is (-8,10). Since F and G have the same x-coordinate, their distance is the vertical difference, which is 1 m.
