A container contains a certain amount of a mixture of milk and water. 28 litres of the mixture is taken out and 16 litres of milk is added to the mixture. The ratio of the total quantity of the initial and final mixture is 15:11. The final quantity of milk in the mixture is 26.2 litres. Find the initial percentage of water.

Solution

Let the initial quantity be 15x and the final quantity be 11x. Using the change in total quantity and the final milk amount, we can determine the original milk and water quantities. The initial water percentage comes out to 40%.
